When in Manila

Posted by

Hey there kids,

You will never guess where I’ve just been!

Well, okay, maybe it’s not THAT hard to guess given the title of this blog post. It might have been Manila.

Too bad I didn’t get to go to Bohol where our family vacationed three years ago and went snorkeling and ate that whole roast pig for Thanksgiving. This trip wasn’t quite as exciting. I went to three days of meetings – at a bank. And not even the kind of bank where you can open a savings account. Just the kind of bank that has lots of meetings.

But I got to stay in a hotel close to where we lived when we were kids. That was fun. The neighborhood looks very different 30 years later.

I also got to see old friends from when I lived in the Philippines three years ago. And I got to eat lots of yummy food.

I don’t know if some of you remember going to my favorite restaurant in the world in Makati. It’s called Wild Flour. And I went there too. I had the grilled octopus salad and the salted chocolate caramel cake. And while I didn’t eat a whole pig on this particular trip, I did eat quite a bit of pork.

In addition to eating all the food, seeing old friends and sitting in meetings, I also made lots of new friends. That was the best part. Well, that and getting a gift bag from the bank that had a stuffed Philippines eagle in it. Maybe I’ll give it to one of you when I see you next.

I think we are all going to have to go back sometime soon. It is truly “more fun in the Philippines.”
